Welcome to the Official site for Saskatoon singer Mat Twist
Who is Mat Twist
My name is Mat Twist (yes, that’s Mat with just one T). I was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, but moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 1991 following high school. I’ve enjoyed singing pretty much since I could speak. I remember an event from my early childhood when my family brought the neighbours round to hear me sing songs from television commercials and they thought I was some kind of prodigy. In the second grade some friends and I wrote and performed a Christmas play; at the end I sang an accapella version of silent night that received a standing ovation.
During my school years I sang in many musicals and shows, but my young ambitions were much grander. In high school I took lessons on keyboards, in the steel band and in all kinds of vocal music. I grew up through the eighties and nineties music scene, which was so much fun. My dream has always been to record a rock album with a British record producer and get played on the radio.
Right now we’re working on finishing up the album but in the interim I’m singing locally in various shows round town. It’s an amazing experience to create this CD and work with so many talented people. Some of my influences that you might notice on this album include Bowie, Duran Duran, The Police, Billy Idol and Lenny Kravitz but there are many others. Thematically the songs range widely from matters of the heart to travel, techno-culture, dystopian themes and so on. This album’s been a long time coming but it’ll definitely have been worth it. I can’t wait for you to hear the finished product!
